Everton Football Club is a professional football club based in the city of Everton, Greater Manchester, England. The club was founded in 1892 as Newton Heath F.C., and played its first competitive match in 1894. They were promoted to the First Division in 1907, and reached the FA Cup Final in 1966, losing to Liverpool. They played their last game in the First Division in 1992. They were relegated to the Second Division in 1998, but were promoted back to the First Division in 2002. They played their first ever competitive match in the Premier League in 2003, and have since been in the top flight. They have won the League Cup twice, the FA Cup once, the League Championship once, and the UEFA Champions League once. They are also the most successful club in the English Football League, having won the League Cup, the FA Cup, the League Championship, and the UEFA Champions League three times.
Everton's home ground is Goodison Park, which has been their home since their foundation. The stadium has a capacity of 52,000, and was the first ground in England to be built with a all-seater stand. It was also the first ground in Europe to be built with a digital scoreboard. The stadium was also the first ground in England to be built with artificial turf. The stadium was renamed Goodison Park Stadium in honour of the club's founder, John Goodison. The stadium was also the home of the England national team from 1966 to 1990. The club's current owner is the Glazer family.
